Special Handling

Tube MUST be filled to the line on the tube. DO NOT overfill or underfill.
If specimen cannot be tested within 4 hours, Sodium Citrate tubes must be spun, separated and plasma frozen.

Grossly Hemolyzed Samples
Collection tubes not properly filled

Stability

Plasma: Ambient 4 hours. Refrigerated unacceptable. Frozen 2 weeks. Whole Blood: Ambient 4 hours.

Additional Information

Patients that are on therapeutic coagulation drugs, including but not limited to Rivaroxaban, Apixaban, Edoxaban, Dabigatron, Vit K antagonists, and Unfractionated Heparin, are known to cause interference with testing. Discontinue drugs for a minimum of 24 hours prior to any aPTT testing.
