Specimen source required. Refrigerated specimens are not recommended for recovery of some fastidious organisms such as Neisseria spp.
Specimens that contain normal or transient anaerobic flora are not suitable for anaerobic culture. These include: Oral, Throat, nasopharyngeal, sputum, urogenital, urine, feces, superficial wounds and specimens from sites contaminated with intestinal contents.
