Collect
Sterile Container or Grey Top C&S Preservative Tube.
Submit
Submit 5 mLs of Clean-catch, midstream, foley catheter, or straight catheter urine in C&S Preservative Tube, Ambient. OR 3 mL in sterile container (within 24 hours), Refrigerated. (Min: 3 mL in C&S Preservative Tube; 1 mL in sterile container)
Special Handling
Type of urine collection required.
Rejection Criteria
Urine from catheter bag. Multiple (more than one in 24 hours), 24-hour, or pooled specimens. Foley catheter tips (syringe with needle attached). Delayed transport of unpreserved urine (greater than two hours at room temperature or greater than 24 hours refrigerated).
Stability
Unpreserved: Ambient: 2 hours; Refrigerated: 24 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable.
Grey Top C&S Preservative Tube: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable.
