Special Handling

Specimen must be completely spun with in one hour of collection. If no gel seperator serum or plasma must be removed from cells and stored in a specimen transport tube. Must be refrigerated after 2 hours, and frozen within 2 days.

Grossly hemolyzed, lipemic, icteric specimens

Only freeze once Note: Hemolysis may significantly increase folate values due to high concentrations of folate in red blood cells. Therefore, hemolyzed samples are not suitable for use in this assay. Samples for folate determinations should be collected from fasting persons.
