Collect

Aptima Media - Vaginal Swab (Orange) or Aptima Media - Random Urine (Yellow)

Submit

Swab in Aptima Kit-Multitest (Orange) OR Urine in Aptima Kit-Urine (Yellow). Submit Ambient or Refrigerated.

Special Handling

Place swab in Aptima MultiTest Swab Specimen Transport Tube, break shaft at scoreline then recap tube OR Transfer 2 mL urine within 24 hours to an Aptima Urine Specimen Transport Tube. Liquid level must be between fill lines on tube.

Rejection Criteria

Vaginal specimens with no swab or two swabs in the Aptima MultiTest Swab Transport Tube.
Specimens that are grossly bloody or dark brown specimens.
Underfilled or overfilled Urine Aptima tranport tubes.

Stability

AMBIENT: 30 days in Aptima tube, REFRIGERATED: 30 days in Aptima tube, FROZEN: 60 days in Aptima tube (NOTE: Urine is stable for 24 hours refrigerated prior to transfer to Aptima tube)

Additional Information

For urine, patient should not have urinated for at least one hour prior to sampling. Do not cleanse the area prior to providing the specimen. Direct the patient to provide first-catch urine into a sterile urine collection cup and then transfer appropriate amount of specimen into the transport tube. Liquid must fall between 2 black indicator lines on APTIMA Kit. Patient should avoid high concentrations of antifungal cream or contraceptive jelly, and should not douche prior to time of collection.
