Special Handling
Inoculate 1 mL of Synovial Fluid into a Bactec Peds/Plus F bottle. If a gram stain is needed, send additional fluid to performing laboratory. Specimen volumes less than 1.0 mL routine culture plates will be set up instead of blood culture bottle.
Rejection Criteria
Specimens received in syringes with a needle attached or specimens in a container with anticoagulant.
